In the year running up to the .uk proposal by Nominet a number of independent reports were commissioned on ‘Internet Security’ – We believe that these reports have influenced Nominet’s .uk security proposals:
1. Commons Select Committee: Malware and cyber crime
The Committee agreed on 18 July 2011 to launch a new inquiry examining Malware and cyber crime. The Committee published its Report on 2 February 2012.
2. Ofcom Report: Domain Name System Security Extensions Deployment
Ofcom commissioned a study into the UK deployment of DNSSEC. The study examined the following topics:
- Provide a comparison of the UKs progress and extent deployment of DNSSEC against other EU member states and G20 nations.
- Examine Nominets progress against that of other national registries in the deployment of DNSSEC.
- Establish if any barriers to DNSSEC deployment exist (e.g. technical or economic)
- Identify barriers or issues preventing adoption and deployment by UK hosting providers, Internet Service Providers and businesses
